About the Artwork

‘Minyma tjuta ankupai ngura tjutanguru munu nganana tjunguringkula meeting wiru tjuta wangkara kulilpai.’ – ‘Women travel from all over the country, coming together for meetings to share good ideas.’

‘Minyma tjuta nyinanyi putingka mai wiru urantjaku.’ – ‘Women are out in the bush to collect healthy food.’

The women are represented as they have been for centuries by the ‘u’ shape left in the sand after they have been sitting down cross-legged. The dots are like the patterns of different desert vegetation types, and concentric circles linked by lines can represent waterholes and river courses or the travelling and resting places of Creation Ancestors and Anangu.
