24-1418 Kapi pulka munu pantu (big rains and salt lakes)
About the Artwork
Through her abstract mark-making, Chriselda paints about the rain sweeping through the desert and filling the waterholes and great salt flats found just near where she grew up, reflecting on precious moments spent by the water.
“The rain coming in, big rain, those dark clouds, big black clouds with thunder, you know? They fill up the salt lakes with water, and the rockholes too. In Tjukurla, there’s a big lake there, it goes that way to Erldunda, you can see it from King’s Canyon. You can see it through to Tjukurla, and we always go swimming there! I grew up there. After rain, we always went there, when it’s full of water, and we would swim.”
