Janet Herbert
About Janet Herbert
Janet Herbert is a Warumungu woman, born in 1954 at Phillip Creek, a small settlement approximately 550 kilometres north of Alice Springs. Although she moved to Mutitjulu when she was young, she spent much of her early years moving between Mutitjulu and Areyonga, the community of her father’s family.
It was in Areyonga that Janet learnt to paint by watching her mother and father. They passed down the tjukurpa of their parents to Janet, who in turn has passed it down to her daughter, fellow Walkatjara artist Priscilla Herbert, and her grand daughter, Petalee Moneymoon.
